What are the best cover songs you've heard? My choices...

1. Over the Hills and Far Away - Nightwish

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=6UztEfwHt14

2. Hallowed be thy Name - Cradle of Filth

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=7C6KwVkOkCE

3. Losing my Religion - Graveworm

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=tTKL6K6jozw

I think we should all choose a good song for PYTHIA to cover aswel. Any suggestions?? Smile

The best covers take the original song into a totally new direction, a few of the ones I play often are -

HIM - Wicked Game - (Chris Isaak)
Killswitch Engage - Holy Diver - (Dio)
The Clan Destined - T.C Lethbridge - (Julian Cope)
Disturbed - Land of confusion - (Genesis)
Fear Factory - Cars - (Gary Numan)
Lacuna Coil - Stars - (Dubstar)
Mushroomhead - Crazy - (Seal)

My favourite metal cover - Nevermore - The sound of silence - (Simon & Garfunkel)

The single best cover ever - Johnny Cash - Hurt - (NIN)

A special mention needs to go to the Northern King's album and both Werk 80 and Werk 80 II by Atrocity.

I didn't know Mushroomhead did a cover of Crazy! Though i did like their cover of Pink Floyd's Empty Spaces. Which reminds me, i also like Korn's cover of Another Brick in the Wall parts 1-3. Though the Scissor Sisters version of Comfortably Numb was just embarassing.

Are those Atrocity albums really that good? I've read some bad reviews about them. I'm a big fan of Alexander Krull though.

On the album XIII by Mushroomhead, the track "Thirteen" the song starts at around 5 mins 22 seconds in.

Someone has chopped it out here, it's an awesome cover imo.

The Atrocity albums are what they are, there are some hits and some misses on both but that's no different to any other album. It helps that Werk 80 II has Dita Von Teese on the cover though!!

HHUUUUUMM....I`ve got milyions of these.
Try these for starters.
Guano Apes- Big in Japan (alphaville)
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=CFojdQ8d7DY

Then God himself Gary Moore, if theres ever been a better guitarist than Gazza,
then I havn`t heard him/her yet. This is a cover of the Easy Beats Friday on My Mind,
which was pretty good in the first place.
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=6Lb33rgMe48

Thought Id`e shove this in not cos its a great cover, but its about as Gothic
as it gets Twisted Evil and its a brilliant fantasy film, flaming Skulls an-all that Shocked
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=xr1IBNZiBn0

Then of course there is NIGHTWISH
This is one of four songs to bring water droplets from my eyes,
NO, not cos I was laughing so hard Laughing
The one, the only, Walking in the Air
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=IeRitbMOZEs
You don`t get the whole nine yards of this but you get the idea. Wink Wink

I can't believe I never replied to this, although Andy did mention most of my favourites. One we did forget though was Turisas - Rasputin

That song has been in my head for days! It's awesome seeing them play it live. The whole place goes mad! Smile

Yes, have to agree with that one. Also like the Lacuna Coil version of Stars mentioned earlier. I was a big Dubstars fan so when LC covered it i was interested straight away. I was amazed they'd heard it!

They were awesome on Saturday, though I think some of the splendor of Turisas was lost on the 10yr old Dragonforce fans.

Yes, thought it was an interesting combination, Dragonforce and Turisas! Turisas never fail to bring a smile to my face, i've seen them three times now.

As covers go Rammstein's version of Depeche Mode's Stripped is a great live favourite and is always one of the encores. Depeche Mode's songs seem better "rocked up" and as well as Rammstein i think Lacuna Coil and Marilyn Manson have both improved on their originals.

As a massive Floyd fan i'm pleased with Nightwish's version of High Hopes too.

I personally am not a fan of the LC version of Enjoy The Silence, you need to hear the Mike Shinoda re-mix of it to hear the ultimate version imo.
